I would like to express my sincere condolences to Andy's family and friends - it must be an incredibly sad and difficult time for them.

Andy was an extraordinary contributor to this forum and his presence will be hugely missed. Only yesterday, responding to a comment I made, he spoke about the importance of sharing knowledge and how the forum provides a permanent record. He was right, of course, and I am so sorry that he's not still here today, continuing his role as an ever present positive voice, always looking for the latest way to contribute and lend a helping hand.

RIP Andy.

Poor Andy! I'm stunned. I'd been awaiting a reply from him. He was one of those I felt I'd connected with, sharing a little banter here and there. I'm gonna miss him.

I hope that his family know there is a group of friends here that will miss him, not just as someone to share files with, but as someone who was fun to communicate with and who respected him enough to ask him for help here and there. He was a knowledable individual who put me on the right track with a number of things on more than one occasion.

RIP, Andy. RIP. It was a pleasure to know you, if only obliquely.

This is terrible news. It's shocking enough when someone dies so suddenly and so young, but he was one of the most helpful and active members of our group, and I was just reading his comments earlier today after having been away from Y. for a while. So Young (Love Theme from Zabriskie Point) - Orbison/Curb/Christian

Dawn comes up so young, dreams begin so young
And if you live just for today the day may soon be done
But there's a place where dreams always stay so young

A place to hear the sun go down and fade away
To see the wind just run away with yesterday
Anyplace for those who care Zabriskie Point is anywhere
Time runs out so fast on love too good to last, so young

A time to look forever's there or never found
To touch the sky and really feel the world go round
To live to love to laugh to cry to be alone
Young, so young love was meant to be wild and free
So young young, so young love is space in life
A place in time a state of mind too late i find
When tomorrow's gone and love is lost so young

Firstly my condolences to Andy's family and close friends, I'm sure members thoughts here are with them at a difficult time. I never met Andy personally but I feel through the medium of Yeeshkul! I did know him as he was ever present here. And he will sadly be missed here - very much so.

Without echoing too much of whats already been said, to me, Andy was both generous and gratious. His sharing of material and thanking others for their contribution here is second to none. I'd imagine in his outside Yeeshkul! life was similar. 2 major elements that make people decent human being and thats priceless. Especially those like Andy - I thank you.

RIP Andy672.

Peace,

This thread is like a book of condolences for a great man. We all knew Andrew as a friend online. Maybe every member will add a post remembering how much of a gentleman that he was. If, one day, most members posted, perhaps one of the Ops would send the link on to his wife, with a fitting farewell to a comrade. Our thoughts are with his immediate family, and may they find solace in the fact that Andrew's memory will always be held in great esteem her on Y.

May his wife and children always remember Andrew in their hearts, and allow us all to commiserate his passing to his family and his friends.

I.

Gone, O gentle heart and true,
Friend of hopes foregone,
Hopes and hopeful days with you
Gone?

Days of old that shone
Saw what none shall see anew,
When we gazed thereon.

Soul as clear as sunlit dew,
Why so soon pass on,
Forth from all we loved and knew
Gone?

II.

Friend of many a season fled,
What may sorrow send
Toward thee now from lips that said
'Friend'?

Sighs and songs to blend
Praise with pain uncomforted
Though the praise ascend?

Darkness hides no dearer head:
Why should darkness end
Day so soon, O dear and dead
Friend?

III.

Dear in death, thou hast thy part
Yet in life, to cheer
Hearts that held thy gentle heart
Dear.

Time and chance may sear
Hope with grief, and death may part
Hand from hand's clasp here:

Memory, blind with tears that start,
Sees through every tear
All that made thee, as thou art,
Dear.

IV.

True and tender, single-souled,
What should memory do
Weeping o'er the trust we hold
True?

Known and loved of few,
But of these, though small their fold,
Loved how well were you!

Change, that makes of new things old,
Leaves one old thing new;
Love which promised truth, and told
True.

V.

Kind as heaven, while earth's control
Still had leave to bind
Thee, thy heart was toward man's whole
Kind.

Thee no shadows blind
Now: the change of hours that roll
Leaves thy sleep behind.

Love, that hears thy death-bell toll
Yet, may call to mind
Scarce a soul as thy sweet soul
Kind.

VI.

How should life, O friend, forget
Death, whose guest art thou?
Faith responds to love's regret,
How?

Still, for us that bow
Sorrowing, still, though life be set,
Shines thy bright mild brow.

Yea, though death and thou be met,
Love may find thee now
Still, albeit we know not yet
How.

VII.

Past as music fades, that shone
While its life might last;
As a song-bird's shadow flown
Past!

Death's reverberate blast
Now for music's lord has blown
Whom thy love held fast.

Dead thy king, and void his throne:
Yet for grief at last
Love makes music of his own
Past.

Algernon Charles Swinburne

Andy was such a kind, polite, knowledgeable and giving soul. No one will fill the huge void which his passing has left on Y!
Sending sincere condolences to all that loved him, as well as hope that the pain of loss dulls soon, to be replaced by the solace which heartfelt memories provide.

Angels beating all their wings in time
With smiles on their faces
And a gleam right in their eyes.

My sweet honey love
May the good Lord shine a light on you --
Warm, like the evening sun.

It’s been hard to come to terms with the loss of Andrew Osborn whose name most of us only just learned. His presence as andy_672 was ubiquitous on Y, and it is obvious that he will be sincerely missed here. It’s an amazing tribute to him, that his passing has sparked an outpouring of fond remembrances from so many corners of the globe. Few people can boast of having touched so many others in their own town, let alone worldwide. I hope that Kay and the family find some measure of solace in the knowledge that Andy was so widely liked and respected. I echo the sentiments of the rest of the Y community in saying thanks for sharing with us Andy. We’ll miss you.

Shock and sadness at seeing that one of the most considerate and active members of Yeeshkul! has left us.

Only been around for a few months and posted a couple of torrents but andy_672 left a thank you or comment on all of them....

Condolences to his family and friends, hope the knowledge that he touched so many people here provides some small comfort during this difficult time of grief.

This is very sad news indeed. Such a great loss to all, but most especially his family.

And so young, makes you think of your own mortality.

Deary, deary me. May his soul rest in peace.

Thanks for that bit of information, TJ.
I know from my own experience that she has yet to hit the hardest part.
It takes time, friends, family, and - yes - love to get through it.
I would also suggest religion, but that is only my opinion, even though shared by many.

My feelings entirely, what your saying is so true Oldpink,
I will say a prayer for Andy and his wife at the temple today.
My heart felt sympathy go out to Andy’s wife, family and friends.
All at Yeeshkul are here for you.

Strange you mention that. It does seem different without Andy around, uploading, thanking, commenting, and all the other things he used to do.

I've not been on here much myself in the last month. Never really gave it much thought as to why I haven't visited. But it is quieter without Andy. He is much missed.

Peace,
Olly.

PS Andy did a lot of work on audio and video links/lists - whats happening with those? It'd be a shame for them to go out of date after all the effort Andy put into them.

All I can say at this point is that I hope TJ was right, and that Andy's family members have had the opportunity to read this thread.
I think they would be comforted to know so many people - most of whom never actually met him - think so highly of him.
He was a right good bloke.

Well said OP. I miss Andy and his contributions here as well. :tear: I think the best thing we as a community can do to honor his memory is to share, share, share and share some more. Y has been a little slow since his passing. Let's "kick it up a notch" around here. It sounds corny, but I think it's what Andy would want.

Just found out about this via this website, and I am truly shocked and upset. I had been meaning to send Andy a message asking for his master list of gigs. I spoke at length on the telephone to him about a year ago and he helped me upload a DG concert I had taped but been unable to share to the Floyd community. He talked me through the process and his patience was immeasurable and IT knowledge profund - not to mention his Floyd knowledge and devotion. RIP and shine on forever.
