I know a lot of us will have portable FLAC players and for a long time the Rockbox audio player firmware (rockbox.org) was the means by which I played FLAC and Shorten files on a 4th Gen iPod, and later a Cowon iAudio X5L player.
Nowadays I have FLAC Player for iOS on my iPhone which handles my primary lossless playback needs. Obviously you can only carry so much lossless music around with you and if you're like me you wont want to mess around converting stuff to lossy formats, and again, you hit a limit as to what you can take with you.
For about a year I've had access to my entire lossless audio collection when out and about via a streaming setup from my desktop at home. I use Air Media Centre for iOS which has a very lightweight server on my desktop which transcodes pretty much anything on the fly to Ogg Vorbis and then streams it to my iPhone over 3G or WiFi (quality is best over WiFi but acceptable on 3G).
Air Media Centre (http://www.airmediacenter.com) is the only app like this for iOS that handles Shorten (though its not advertised and support for SHN is in beta at the moment, but it does work :)) Many other apps do FLAC and the other mainstream formats.
Now, I can listen to every show I own whenever and wherever. Its worth checking out.
What systems do other members use for listening to their stuff on the move?
