I've just learned that Martin aka marbal (http://yeeshkul.com/forum/member.php?4165-marbal) passed away earlier this month. No other details were given, but if you have anything to add, feel free to post in the thread.

Shine on, brother.

Sad day, really sad. I'm not gonna say too much but Marbal was a really stand up and awesome guy. For those who got to correspond with him, probably already know this. This community owes him a lot, some of the best things we have come from him. I will miss him a lot.

I'll see you on the dark side of the moon brother

I haven't corresponded with him for a very long time. Yesterday I sent him a pm on dime and a friend of his using his account replied that he died in February (didn't give the exact date) this year. He recorded many shows during the 70's and shared with us. He'll be missed very much. My deepest condolences to his family and friends! RIP my friend!!

Martin was a very kind man, generous, and one of the older tapers, I liked called him Master.

Very sad news, he'll miss here.

His last post : http://yeeshkul.com/forum/showthread.php?42232-Nick-Mason-SOS-tour&p=270947#post270947

Wonderful, my friend!
Especially for me,because I'm slowly creeping back to normal life after a very serious surgery & 5 weeks in hospital.
Many thanx to everybody here at Y who let me relive all these nice shows which I missed. Now I will get 'em all.
But as I'm still alive I can now hear & see all of your nice results!
Thanx a million to everyone who posted!!!

My condolences.

I know I had the privilege of working on a couple of his recordings. Our collections and this preserved history wouldn't be the same without him.

The world keeps getting smaller...

I've never interacted with Martin but you have to know the name Marbal if you've spent any significant amount of time on this board...

It is because of him and people like him that I'm able to hear these recordings and I have nothing but the utmost respect for the ways that they've unknowingly brought light to my life.

His memory will bless mine for time to come. Rest in Peace, Marbal.

Martin was a legend and lovely guy. Iím shocked to hear of his passing. It was wonderful to work with him a few years ago on the fresh transfers of his early Floyd masters. Marbal was a great guy with great stories and itís true what has been said before, many of the great transfers we have came from Marbalís collection. He will not be forgotten!

Well if FOP could try and get a hold of his friend first, assuming no-one else knows anything more, we'll see what can be arranged.

Thatīs incredibly sad, Marbal was already a real householdname. But he had the pleasure to experience Pink Floyd live in their best years and we have the pleasure that he saved some of it for eternity. Thank You Marbal.

I'm shocked to read such sad news... I knew Martin since the early 80's, being introduced to him by the late Rolf O. (oh, what a sad coincidence!). We used to exchange tapes for years, Martin was indeed not only one of my best partners so far, but a generous man as well...

Got this message from Regine, Martin's wife, today:

Hi Terry, i'm very glad of.yr message and would like to thank you again very much for the wonderful flowers you sent. It was really a big surprise and it is a good feeling that Martin had contact to such kind people like you. All the best and many greetings fm Bavaria. Regine Balsam

The flowers were sent a few weeks back. Thanks to those who gave towards the flowers.

And looks like it was "Klaus" who was in contact with FOP over on Dime - many thanks to her for bringing this to our attention in the first place, and to Nipote for rooting out the address to send to.

I've been away from any music forum for over a month, but it breaks my hart to hear another valued member of our community has died. From the bottom of my heart: Thank you Martin for all the beautiful shows you went to and recorded, so we can still enjoy them. I was around 18 months old when his first Floyd recording was done. Would never have had the joy of listening to these without generous people like him.
May he find peace and be without pain. My thoughts are with his loved ones.
