I can verify that James Guthrie had nothing to do with the 5.1 mixes of Meddle and OBC being pulled from the box set. He was not involved in the box set and had no say in what was on, or not put on, the set. It is really sad that anyone would think that he had anything to do with this. Guthrie has been overseeing the Pink Floyd vinyl reissues, and is responsible for how great the LPs sound. If Guthrie had been involved in the box set, I think that many of the sound and editing issues that plague the set would not be there.

Roger Waters is the one who had the mixes pulled from the set because no told him that the mixes were being done, and no one bothered to play the mixes for him. All previous 5.1 mixes (DSOTM & WYWH) were played for all the band members for their input and approval prior to releasing them. This time round no one bothered, and the result was that they got pulled.
It's not as simple as that. For the best sources the answer is to combine various releases and, speaking for myself, attempt to track back some of the stuff that I have released a bit further. Various people in the community I have spoken to are working on it and I would welcome correspondence with anybody reading this who has any tapes or transfers that could be of interest.

First official news I have seen about PF Meddle 5.1
From a conspiracy theorist point of view, that info looks looks like a hard sell for the boxset and it's price
Does anyone know why no Pink Floyd singles got issued after PMATS in '68 in the UK for over 10 years, while the rest of the world continued to do so?
Was this a band, management or record company decision?
Great box by the way! ☺
Are you kidding me??!! We have to buy NEW hardware to watch this? I've never heard of such an atrocity before in my life. Is that even legal? Imagine buying an audio CD that does not play in an audio CD player? Or an LP that does not work on your turn table? Or a DVD that does not play on your player. They should be open and transparant about this! Warn people that it will not play on certain Blueray equipment end say how you can check that on beforehand!!! Having to replace hardware to play a medium that was developed for it. Are they completely mad!? And this probably only to protect it against copying which has already been done by the fan that discovered that a 5.1 audio surround mix of 'Meddle' is on one of the BD's.
