    Default Syd Barrett SHM-CDs

I made my annual contribution to the Syd Barrett estate this year by buying the SHM-CD releases of The Madcap Laughs, Barrett and Opel from Amazon Japan.

The CDs themselves have the original album tracks + the extra tracks from the 1993 re-releases/ Crazy Diamond Box Set + new bonus tracks.

On Barrett and Opel, the new bonus tracks are just selections from the 2010 remasters made by Gilmour for "An Introduction To Syd Barrett". However, the real prize is an official CD version of Rhamadan that is on The Madcap Laughs - all 20 minutes of it.

Till now, the only official version was the MP3 download which was part of "An Introduction To Syd Barrett". This is a real keeper. So if there is only one you would like to buy, then The Madcap Laughs should be it.

Just like the CD release of To Kill The Child/ Leaving Beirut, looks like Japan have another exclusive Floyd-related release!

I used to have the Rhamadan track but hard drives defunct.

Well worth buying for a CD quality version of Rhamadan.

    Cheers

How is the album mastering? Better than 1992 remaster?

I've yet to listen to it. I'll give it a spin over the weekend and let you know.

I'd love SACD versions of these, SHM is making a name for themselves as they are doing flat transfers of the studio master tapes to SACD on ALOT of classic rock bands and the results are amazing. They just did a set of All the Roxy Muic studio albums that sounded perfect, no clipping high DR and literally straight from the master tape.

Can someone please explain what SHM means? The cynic in me thinks it means "same as CD, just more expensive." Why are these worth ~$30?
