Default GINI radio adverts recently found : Floyd or not ? (see attachements)

    Hi,
I have a request for all Floyd experts ...
I have recently found a can of dusty tapes with recording of the french radios between 60's and 70's. One of these tapes (labelled 74 & 75) contains some adverts.
I have 3 ads related to the soft drink GINI.
We all know Pink Floyd was shooted in desert late 1973. It was also widely written that the band has recorded one song for the radio & TV adverts.

These specific ads feature the boxer Carlos Manzon (we can see some poster on internet). The sound is very "floydian". Its seems similar what we can hear on the "Magritte" soundtrack (from "A Tree full ...").
    So who knows ?

I post some samples (hope this is not againts the board rules ...)

Definitely not against the rules, though an admin will need to approve them before we can hear them. This could be a very interesting find if your hunch is correct -- I can't wait to check them out!

    Thumbs up

    thanks! I'm thirsty
well, the second one is in French (at first I thought it was ripped from the audio of a late night TV6 erotic telefilm) "Gini c'est comme un goût étrange, venu d'ailleurs, c'est comme l'amour"...
well, I'll try to translate it including the hidden-message-subtext : "Gini, it's a bittersweet strange taste, like coming from elsewhere (outtaspace?), it's a taste like love..."

the first one as a few French lines too...

Here, the (silly) announcement (in french, by a female with a spanish-accent)

    First :
"Carlos Manzon il aime le tango, il aime Gini, il aime l’amour (Rires)
Carlos Manzon il fait l’amour comme un grand boxeur champion mondial (Rires)
    Il boit toujours la gini
Moi aussi je bois le Gini avec Carlos Manzon"

"Carlos Manzon likes Tango, he likes Gini, he likes love (laughs)
Carlos Manzon, he makes love as a great world boxing champion (laughs)
    He always drinks Gini
i drink Gini with Carlos Manzon too"
    Second :

"Gini c'est un gout étrange venu d’ailleurs
    C’est comme Carlos Manzon, c'est comme l’amour
    et j’aime l’amour comme gini
    gini bitter lemon tonic"

"Gini is a strange taste from elsewhere
    like Carlos Manzon, like love
and i like love as Gini
    Gini Bitter Lemon Tonic"

Thanks for posting this. I wouldn't find it totally inconceivable that this the music here was something the Floyd recorded in late 1973. The synths and percussion aren't unlike parts of Obscured by Clouds, or even Shine On. But then, it could be anyone...

The synth strings do remind me of Shine On, while the filtered bass is OBC-ish. But I don't think I've ever heard Rick use that pure-toned lead sound; he seemed to prefer buzzier sawtooth/triangle-wave sounds for his synth leads. As you say, it could be anyone, but if this track did turn out to be the Floyd, I'm guessing that Rick or maybe David would've been behind that melody.

Do we know who was allegedly credited with the Gini advert music? It'd be a bit odd for Roger to get so worked up about it if he didn't write it. And we do know for sure that the band actually did write something, yes? This amusing retelling of the story doesn't mention any music specifically written for the company, but merely a sponsorship arrangement.
