The Last Minute Put Together Boogie Band tape is due to be officially released

"The Concert by The Last Minute Put Together Boogie Band is due to be officially released in Spring next year 2014 and will be available from usual sources such as Amazon , Hmv etc . The recording does indeed feature guest appearance by Syd Barret who appears on two songs only.Also guesting is Fred Frith. The concert was recorded on the same day in January 1972 as the Hawkwind set which we (Easy Action ) 'Officially' released as an album a couple of years ago. That album was licensed from EMI Music so is not 'semi-offical' under any circumstances.
Also on the bill were The Pink Fairies and yes we have that show also. We are the owners of the tapes having purchased them three years ago after they failed to sell at Christies. The tapes for the LMPTBB are currently being restored and mastered and we are hoping to have our first review in Shindig magazine shortly after Christmas. Twink has been interviewed extensively by rock DJ Jon Kirkman and we are currently pondering on artwork .

The description sounds like it's just the full-band version of "Give Birth to a Smile", which has been part of the soundtrack since day one, no? (It's certainly on my VHS > DVD copy.) Or is there something else added?

One of the bonus materials is a 38 minute "Musical Suite". The video portion is a weird kaleidoscope of images. It's not very interesting but the audio portion is much more so as the Roger Waters segments are different to the CD versions: different arrangements, takes and lyrics.

In the Brain Damage clip of The Body, the song is a different take. Always wonder why the have slightly different takes or variations in movies. It is almost always the case.

Lets not beat about the bush. The Syd recording will suck. I have Hawkwind's set from this gig. The recording medium is rough; a dodgy stereo recording from a set of suspended microphones with all the comb-filtering and bleed through you would expect.

This recording will be an extravagant example of collectorship trumping common sense. We know that Syd was completely disenfranchised by the music industry, and music in general, by this point. At best he will be hammering out some tired boogie shuffles and simple chord progressions. It will sound like a massively under-self-confident guitarist busking through some simple blues numbers. I'm more interested in Fred Frith's contribution because he was actually on form during this period of time. Man this tape will suck, but some collectors will be able to tick a box somewhere, and this trumps musical value on this forum more times than I care to remember.

At best it will be a stodgy recording of an under-rehearsed band rumbling through a few standard blues progressions. Syd's guitar work will be primitive and barely audible, with Fred Frith dominating the guitar work even if he is playing in a reserved manner. Remember that Henry Cow were playing complex through-composed works by this point at a technical level far more complex than anything Syd produced when he even have half a **** about music.
