I would like to know what are the real 'holy grails' inside, I mean, we all already have STLS, VM, the 1965 EP, Pompeii, Man & Journey, BBC tapes, etc...
For that price they may add (a re-recording of) Millionaire...
Will buy it anyway.

Thinking about these early Floyd singles reminds me of a strange experience when I first bought 'Apples and Oranges'. I took it home and played it over and over (on one of those record players that would take half a dozen records on the spindle but which, if you left the arm off, it would play the same record over and over). I must have played it very loudly about two dozen times and, each time, the end of the instrumental in the middle segued seamlessly into "I'm the lorry driver man" (so sign of any cut or a jump). This happened for a couple of days when, instead of going into the last verse, a loud voice suddenly boomed out "Thought you might like to know".................. it made me jump so much that I almost sh*t myself! Absolutely true story - I've no idea why it happened but it always played the full song thereafter. At 15 years old, I had a (stupid) theory that, somehow, the vinyl had a temporary 'block' intentionally inserted which was worn away by successive plays so that this was meant to happen, but I never heard of anyone else having the same issue.

I guess some people who prefer to download will be happy but for me, who pays every time for music on CD or Vinyl, this price is just disrespectful

The price may still decline by about a quarter from the original one. All depends on the amount of pre-orders. A common practice of sales.

Why must all of this material be presented in one package?

Do record companies really make money with these big, elaborate box sets? I mean... just count how many box sets have come out recently surrounding this band.

I've heard that 75% of all box sets are never opened. So, if that's even half right, we are talking about hundreds or thousands of sets being sold at $700 apiece and then shoved in a corner. That's sad. I wonder how many people will download the contents for free just to avoid the guilt of opening a box?

I bought & opened the Shine On box set about 20 years ago. I bought & opened two of the Immersion boxes. And.... I'm going to buy & open the Early Years box. If you don't want to open yours, I would happily store it for you. If you want, I'll even take a picture of it for you every decade or so. Just don't plan on getting it back.

It's difficult to answer. Probably, the main thing here - a collection of RARITIES. As the title...

It would make much more sense if each of the component sets (them book like things representing each album) are issued separately as well, and make the vinyl singles and memorabilia exclusive to this massive box... I for one have zero interest in the vinyl parts whereas I know many will want the vinyl! Floyd and Warners will be slitting their throats if they don't issue the components as separate items because there are Syd freaks out there who will want the Syd stuff but not the rest. To just restrict it to this one set would also be a certain sales killer as not everybody can afford to make such an investment so will seek out "another method" of getting the material and that's more money lost to Warners and Floyd. If this is gonna be the only way they're intending to let us have all these rarities, so be it, but it would be foolish not to put each set out separately as well, maybe say, a month after the box.

I dunno... I'm kinda torn about this. Thankful this is happening and that they're finally opening up the vaults (and probably just this once) but the sheer volume, weight and price is not gonna make everybody happy.

Hopefully so.
Frankly, I could do without the vinyl singles altogether, just as long as all of the recordings on them are available in the set on CD media, preferably with the artwork fitted into the jewel boxes.

The Early Years 1965 - 1972 is a comprehensive 27-disc boxset that sees Pink Floyd delve into their vast music archive to produce a deluxe package that includes 7 individual book-style volumes, featuring much previously unreleased material.

The Early Years box set contains unreleased tracks, BBC Radio Sessions, remixes, outtakes and alternative versions over an incredible 11 hours, 45 mins of audio (made up of 130+ tracks) and live and TV performance in over 14 hours of audio-visual material. The content includes over 20 unreleased songs, more than 7 hours of previously unreleased live audio and over 5 hours of rare concert footage are included, along with 5 meticulously produced 7” singles in replica sleeves, collectable memorabilia, feature films and new sound mixes. Previously unreleased tracks include 1967’s Vegetable Man and In The Beechwoods, which have been mixed for the first time, specially for this release.

The Early Years 1965-1972 will give collectors the opportunity to hear the evolution of the band and witness their part in cultural revolutions from their earliest recordings and studio sessions to the years prior to the release of The Dark Side Of The Moon, one of the biggest selling albums of all time.
