    Default Help with MTS files

    I need some help...

I recorded the TAPF on my camcorder and want to share. 1) The raw files are MTS and over 15GB. Should I convert before I post? 2) Before the second set, I dropped the camera and the focus screwed up. Is there a recommended audio conversion?

    Thanks!

    -Richard.

Audacity might be able to do it, but one may have to install ffmpeg extension. If you have the patience to sort through the seemingly infinite information, VideoHelp may have something for you as well. My apologies for not being more specific.

    Hi,

If you want to reencode try xmedia its free and does everything you want.

I've never used MTS files but maybe you can remux it to a m2ts container with tsmuxer (https://www.videohelp.com/software/tsMuxeR) and then demux the audio and video as you like. The same goes for mkv, although you'll need a separate tool in addition to demux afterwards. Try mkvtoolnix (https://www.fosshub.com/MKVToolNix.html) and also gMKVExtractGUI (https://sourceforge.net/projects/mkvextractgui-2/)

    Hope this helps.

Is this where I'm supposed to say something clever?

    Are you talking about video?

    Then use: http://www.xmedia-recode.de/

if you want to extract the audio, you can also use this one...

    Default thx all!

I appreciate the help everyone! But I didn't get the answers I was looking for...

I have 15GB of MTS files from about a 3 hour show. 1/2 (the first set) is in focus, the other 1/2 (2nd set, encore) is not in focus.

Do I post the MTS files raw, or do I convert?

Since the second half is not in focus, I am thinking of converting the MTS files to an audio format, what format should I convert to?

I am looking less for SW recommendations than for format options... Thanks all!

Put relative lossless video (DVD bitrate) into mkv container and lossless audio into flac.
Lower bitrate video like h264 I put in mp4.
Don't recompress compressed sources but repackage them into appropriate containers as required.

I use ffmpeg from the command line for most audio video conversions.
First I use mediainfo to see what's in it.
    mediainfo filename.mts
    Then I convert or repackage.

    ffmpeg -i filename.mts filename.mkv

    To extract lossless audio:
    ffmpeg -i filename.mts -vn filename.flac

ffmpeg does more than I'll ever understand.

Default Sorry for the delays in responding

Sorry for the delays in responding, I am in Houston Tx and recovering from Hurricane Harvey.. I still have the video files and still plan to post, but it is not a priority...

Thanks for all who offered help, I will try some of these later. My goal is still to post, but later.

    Thanks again,

    -Richard.
