When I first heard it through the little tv speaker I heard yanni. Later when listening to it again on reviewing this thread I listened on my Kipsch speakers connected to the computer and heard laurel.

This is absolutely the same experience I had - some kind of terrible HP desktop speaker at work; then Klipsch Pro-Media 2.1s......

"laurel", until my ears fail me at lower frequencies and then it sounds like the aforementioned synthesized deliberate overdub of a word that I cannot discern ("for reasons I don't understand"..............)

100% "Laurel" for me - I hear the "aur" sound clearly! But when you change the pitch ..... wow. Fascinating indeed!

If you're hearing "yanny", or "yarry" if you're hearing-impaired like sydzappa, try wearing a pair of tight-fighting headphones or anything else that'd block out the high frequencies and see if you hear "laurel" without modifying the audio in any other way.

A detailed explanation of the "yanny" and "laurel" auditory illusion:

I know I'm sad, but this is too much fun.

Not sad - but definitely fun, in a fascinating sort of Spock way.........
