Default foobar direct from a seedbox?

Hi fellow Floyd foobar fans, do any of you use foobar2000 directly from a seedbox or a password protected server?

My current set up is foobar on a windows desktop and it works wonders around the house. However, it's fun to listen to some RoIOs from my iOS phone on the move from time to time. Currently I use Plex off my seedbox, but I'd *much* prefer to use the mobile version of foobar -- though I just can't get it to FTP. I've googled quite a bit and read through a few forums but not yet cracked this problem. As others have said here: foobar is amazing but the learning curve is brutal! Any advice on this would be appreciated...

I'm guessing Foobar can only handle simple unencrypted FTP when you add the location - e.g. ftp://username:password@server.addre...y/pathtofiles/... Can you connect via FTP using a web browser? Your seedbox likely uses SFTP or FTP over TLS which are both encrypted forms of FTP and require proper FTP clients.

Stick with the PLEX media server - don't have to type in silly-long URLs.

It might be possible using VLC Media Player.

    A quick search found this - I know it relates to videos but VLC can also do audio;

I use Subsonic to stream my music over the internet.
Subsonic is supported by at least some seedboxes.

Subsonic is fab, supports transcoding on the fly or direct play of FLAC etc if you have enough bandwidth.
Supports gapless transcoding if you transcode to Ogg.

    Good luck.

Any DLNA compliant client would do it.

Like he says he's already making use of PLEX on the seedbox, but he just wanted to know if it was possible to use Foobar and FTP.

    I hear you.

The benefit of Subsonic specifically is that it handles formats like Shorten, and it has nice mobile clients.
I use play:Sub on iOS which is excellent. Gapless support etc.
I've tried many DLNA clients, including using Foobar as a server, and the compatible clients are terrible in comparison, and most do not handle gapless playback.

Because Subsonic works so well for me, I thought I'd share it.

    Thumbs up

tjmack, direwolf, Beechwoods -- A belated thanks for your suggestions! Much appreciated. Currently having my full music collection neatly through foobar only available within the house is sadly appropriate. Let's hope the world returns to relative normality sooner rather than later....
